Anemia (see also Blood Cell Production)

June 23, 2010

This is an indication of a red blood cell deficiency, particularly in the hemoglobin (the part of the blood that carries oxygen).  The symptoms of anemia are fatigue and reduced resistance to illness.  It is generally thought that iron will correct this deficiency, but it is not necessarily the solution.  Many other nutrients are required for the utilization of iron as well as for the production of hemoglobin.

Supplements that provide the nutrients necessary for the utilization of iron include L-Glutamine, Vitamin B-12, Vitamin B-6, and B-Complex.   Iron can be supplied with Chelated Iron, Alfalfa, I-X, and/or Yellowdock.  Additionallly, Chlorophyll can be very helpful in rebuilding iron-poor blood.

Other helpful supplements are:  All Cell Detox Blood Build, Blue VervainC (Vitamin), ChickweedCordyceps, Dong Quai, FCS II, Ginseng (Korean), Ginseng (Wild American), GreenZone, Herbal Trace Minerals, I-X, IronLemon Oil, LIV-J, Liver Cleanse FormulaMarshmallow,  Nervous Fatigue Formula (Chinese), SF, Small Intestine Detox, Super Algae, Super GLA, Thai-Go, Ultimate EchinaceaZinc

Respiratory Allergies

June 23, 2010

Allergies are caused by the reaction of an overly sensitive immune response to environmental substances. When the immune system reacts to neutralize irritants, it causes mast cells to burst.  This releases histamine into the respiratory tissues, which causes respiratory congestion, runny nose, sneezing, watery, itchy eyes, sinus pain and/or pressure, coughing and/or sore throat.  Yeast infections can also be a root cause of respiratory allergies.  See more in Food Allergies

Formulas that can help with the histamine reactions and help ease allergic reactions are HistaBlock, Four, Eyebright, and EW.  To stabilize mast cells, Vitamin C, Feverfew and Burdock are very helpful, as well as the following   homeopathics: Allergy Homeopathic, Allergies-Hayfever/Pollen, Allergies-Mold/Yeast/Dust

How Can Respiratory Allergies Be Eliminated?

There happens to be a strong connection between the digestive membranes and the respiratory system membranes.  Because of this, a general colon (CleanStart) and liver cleanse (LIV-J or Liver Cleanse) can be very helpful in desensitizing and stabilizing respiratory immune reactions.

The following products are also very helpful in correcting a respiratory allergy:  ALJ - anti-allergic and expels mucous,  Bee Pollen, Black Currant Oil, Bronchial Formula (Ayurvedic) – expectorant & decongestant, CLA, Co-Q10,  ColostrumColostrum with Immune Factors,  Cough Syrup-DH, Devil’s Claw, Elderberry Plus (adults can take these too), Fenugreek & Thyme, Enviro-Detox,  Helichrysum -reduces reactions, Licorice Root, Lobelia, Marshmallow & FenugreekMSMMullein, Super Omega-3, Para-Cleanse, Seasonal Defense, Small Intestine DetoxSinus Support EF, Super GLA, Tei Fu Oil

Food Allergies

June 23, 2010

Many common health problems can be traced back to food allergies.  Symptoms include gastrointestinal disturbances (i.e. leaky gut syndrome and inflammatory bowel disorders), lymphatic and respiratory congestion (swollen lymph nodes and excess mucous), rashes, fatigue, headaches, autoimmune disorders, emotional disturbances, and even hyperactivity, restlessness, irritability, anxiety and depression.  This is because the food causing the allergy is either improperly digested, or incompatible with a person’s blood type (different blood types = different body chemistry).

How Do I Find Out What I’m Allergic To?

A good place to start in your search for what foods you might be allergic to, is to learn what your blood type is.   Peter D’Adamo’s Eat Right 4 Your Type books are excellent reference materials explaining different foods for different blood types (it’s a blood chemistry thing).   Also, Tree of Light Publishing   has some fantastic charts for each Blood Type that provides information on pH and nutrition, including which foods are beneficial and which ones to avoid, whether foods are acid or alkaline, whether they’re considered high glycemic … and a whole lot more.

Can I Test Myself For Allergies?

You can actually test yourself and others for food allergies.  One way to test is to first take your pulse, eat a bite or two of the specific, suspected food (and even ones you don’t suspect … just be sure you test them one at a time), then take your pulse again.  If your pulse increases more than 6 beats a minute after eating the food, then that food is probably an allergen.

But the best way to tell if you’re allergic to certain foods is to eliminate the ones you suspect for a few days (wheat and dairy are very common allergens, so you might want to start with these foods).  You might consider fasting on juice or water for a few days.  If symptoms improve, it’s a pretty good guess there could be some allergies involved, but when the food is reintroduced and symptoms re-occur, you can be sure that food allergies are an issue.

Another Cause of Food Allergies …

It is also common for Leaky Gut Syndrome to be involved in food allergies.  When there is an allergic response after eating raw, unprocessed foods like pineapple, stawberries, or papaya, it’s typically due to a toxin or irritant present in the body that is stirred up by a particular food.  This can be corrected by taking very tiny amounts of the food and gradually increase the amount.  The person’s body will gradually discharge the irritant and the allergic reaction to the food will disappear.

A number of supplements listed below are helpful in eliminating food allergies, but the most important supplements are enzymes such as Food Enzymes,  Proactazyme Plus, and High Potency Protease, along with products that help with detoxifying the liver, such as LIV-J, and Liver Balance

Other products that are helpful for food allergies are: Adrenal Support, Alfalfa, Aloe Vera, Anti-Gas Formula, Bentonite (Hydrated),  Black Currant Oil, Burdock, Chickweed, CLA, CleanStart, Co-Q10, Colostrum with Immune Factors, Devil’s Claw, Energ-V, HistaBlock, Lactase Plus - lactose intolerance, MSM, Omega-3Para-Cleanse, Red Beet Formula, Small Intestine Detox -from toxicity, Super GLA, Tofu Moo, Una de Gato Combination

Amenorrhea

June 22, 2010

The absence of a menstrual cycle is called amenorrhea.  When the menstrual cycle becomes scant, infrequent, or absent, it’s important to determine the cause.   Some of the most common causes are from vegetarian diets and diets low in fats or protein, excessive exercise, stress, thyroid imbalance, dysfunction of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries, or uterus, medications, and general poor health.  Surgical removal of both ovaries or the uterus can also be a cause.

Alzheimer’s Disease (see also Brain Function)

June 22, 2010

What is Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s is a central nervous system degenerative disease …  a pre-senile dementia characterized by mental deterioration, including: confusion, loss of memory, speech problems, hallucinosis, and the inability to perform and follow through with purposeful movements.  This is the result of free radical destruction to the neurons in the brain that produce the neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.

What Causes Alzheimer’s?

Studies done on Alzheimer patients have found high levels of aluminum in the brain, so aluminum poisoning could be a factor in the cause of the disease (yet we’re encouraged every year  to get flu shots which contain aluminum).   It’s also been found that Alzheimer’s nearly doubles in patients with high homocysteine levels.

What We Can Do to Protect Our Brains?

  • Avoid cooking in aluminum cookware (especially with acidic foods like tomatoes)
  • Avoid antiperspirant deodorants containing aluminum compounds
  • Eat food high in antioxidants and take antioxidant supplements (Thai-Go is an excellent source of antioxidants)
  • Improve circulation to the brain (Ginkgo/Gotu Kola with Bacopa helps improve many symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s)
  • Chelate toxic heavy metals from the brain (Mega-Chel program, or Heavy Metal Detox are both helpful here)

Although most of the remedies listed here are more for preventative purposes, they can slow the progress of Alzheimer’s, but may not completely halt or reverse its progress.

Alcoholism (see also Addictions)

June 21, 2010

Please be aware that alcoholics should avoid alcohol extracts and tinctures when using herbal products.  Otherwise, there are many products that can help with the issues that need to be addressed in overcoming an alcohol addiction.  To reduce alcohol cravings for example, Kudzu/St. John’s Wort may be helpful.   Or if you’re a beer drinker, taking Hops as an herb may reduce cravings for beer since  it’s hops that may be what you’re actually addicted to.   Stabilizing blood sugar levels can  be very helpful, as most alcoholics are hypoglycemic.  Products that support liver function and help to rebuild and repair the liver are very important due to alcohols adverse affect on that organ. Supporting the nervous system may also be necessary.

Here are several other products that can help people recover from alcohol addiction: Adrenal Support, Bergamot

Black Currant Oil, Blood Build (Chinese), Hops -cravings, L-Glutamine -mental degeneration, Kudzu/St. John’s Wort, Milk Thistle -alcohol-induced fatty liver, Niacin -cravings, detox, Rose Bulgaria -hangover, effects of alcohol consumption on the liver, Spirulina -regeneration of early liver damage from alcohol abuse, Valerian -withdrawal, Wild Yam -gastritis in alcoholics

Aging: Promote Longevity / Vitality

June 21, 2010

As we age, free radical damage to our tissues increases.  Eating foods that are high in antioxidants and taking antioxidant supplements can actually prevent the damage caused by free radicals, thereby slowing, or even reversing some of the symptoms of aging.

We also experience increased hormonal miscommunication resulting in loss of function.  Hormones affect more than just our reproductive system … there are actually several hundred types of hormones which literally impact every system and organ in the body. There are various tonics and glandulars that can be used to improve hormonal communication and glandular function, thus improving overall body function.
