Hypotension (see also Blood Pressure, Low)
August 11, 2010
Low blood pressure isn’t recognized quite the same as high blood pressure (probably because high bp is so much more prevalent) , but it is a serious problem just the same. Symptoms of low blood pressure are fatigue, dizziness or fainting. This can be the result of blood loss, but it can also be caused by glandular problems.
These herbs are used for low blood pressure: Eleuthero, Ginkgo & Hawthorn - normalizes high or low, Hawthorn Berries

Blood Pressure, High – (see also ‘Hypertension’ )
August 11, 2010
When one has high blood pressure (hypertension), tension in the arteries is excessive and the heart must pump harder to get the blood to the body’s extremeties. High blood pressure increases the risk of stroke. Symptoms can include dizziness or headache, but often there are no symptoms.
High blood pressure can be caused by:
- fluid retention
- kidney or hormonal imbalances
- arteriosclerosis
- hyperinsulinemia
- excess weight
- stress
- a combination of these factors.
It’s very important to determine the underlying cause(s) in order to select the most effective natural remedies.
When high blood pressure is caused by arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), plaque that has built up in the arteries is obstructing circulation. In order to restore normal blood flow, this plaque must be removed. The MegaChel program is very useful in helping the body remove this plaque. See Chelation, Oral for more information on how this program works (including instructions).
If fluid retention is causing or contributing to high blood pressure, diuretics are needed to remove fluid from the cells. See Edema for ways to restore normal fluid levels.
When the culprit is stress, nervous tension elevates blood pressure. Adaptagenic herbs, such as Eluthero Root and American Ginseng can be very helpful in this situation. Additional remedies that can help reduce stress-related blood pressure are Magnesium, Nutri-Calm, and Passion Flower.
We all know that excess weight can contribute to high blood pressure … but do you know why? It’s because the heart has to pump through the additional blood vessels created by the adipose fat tissue. Therefore, it is very important to lose weight in order to help normalize blood pressure. See Weight Loss for suggested products.
Another contributor to high blood pressure is hyperinsulinemia (a.k.a. Syndrome X or Metabolic Syndrome), which also contributes to arterial plaque as well as weight gain, and increases the risk of arthritis. So addressing this condition can result in a dramatic reduction in blood pressure as well as improvement in other areas. See Hyperinsulinemia for more information.
